How to Respec in The Witcher 3 Remastered

How to reset skill points in The Witcher 3 Remastered: the free 5.0 reset, the Potion of Clearance, mutations, and planning before you respec.

Want to change your build in The Witcher 3 Remastered? There are two situations: the one-time free reset that came with update 5.0, and respeccing during the game with a potion. Here is how both work and how not to waste your points.

The free reset in update 5.0

The Remaster rebuilt the skill trees, so every skill point on existing saves was refunded. Your save, gear, level and story progress stay, but you need to spend your skill points again.

If you load an old save, just open the character screen and spend your points. Plan your build before you do. Our guide on what to pick after the skill reset helps with that.

Respeccing mid-game: the Potion of Clearance

To redistribute your points at any time, you need a Potion of Clearance. Drinking it refunds every point spent on skills, and each potion is used up.

What about mutations?

In the original game, the Potion of Clearance did not undo researched Blood and Wine mutations. We do not have a reliable confirmation yet whether that changed in the Remaster, so plan expensive mutations carefully before you research them. Costs and requirements for every mutation are in our mutations guide.

Plan your build before you drink

The potion is expensive, so build your new setup in the calculator first:

  1. Spend your points and see how much the whole build costs.
  2. In the "Leveling order" panel, set what you take first.
  3. Copy the build link. You can open it any time, including on your phone next to the console.
